Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested and charged Melvin Myers, an officer of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), in connection with the death of a civilian during a law enforcement operation in Paynesville.
According to an LNP statement, Myers has been forwarded to court on a charge of manslaughter following an investigation into a ghetto raid conducted by the LDEA on December 15, 2025. The operation took place around Menetama Beach, behind the Baptist Theological Seminary.
Police said that during the raid, Myers allegedly assaulted Alex Grant, a 20-year-old resident of Cooper’s Farm Community in Paynesville. Grant later died as a result of the injuries he sustained during the incident.
The LNP noted that the arrest and subsequent court action followed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death. Authorities have not released additional details about the nature of the assault or the status of the court proceedings.
The case has drawn public attention as calls continue for accountability within law enforcement agencies. The LNP reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that officers found in violation of the law are held responsible for their actions.
