Kanneh Launches Construction of 10-Classroom Annex to Transform Johnsonville Public School

Representative Sekou S. Kanneh of Montserrado County District #2 on Friday, January 9, 2026, officially broke ground for a new 10-classroom annex at Johnsonville Public School, a development aimed at addressing overcrowding and enhancing the learning environment for students.

During the ceremony, Kanneh emphasized that the project represents a tangible commitment to community-driven education improvements and sustainable local development.

“Our children deserve classrooms that allow them to learn comfortably and safely. This annex is not just a building; it is an investment in the future of Johnsonville Township,” Kanneh said.

He highlighted the vital role of public schools in providing equitable access to education, particularly for families who rely on nearby institutions due to financial constraints.

The lawmaker explained that the additional classrooms will reduce congestion in existing structures, allowing teachers to deliver lessons more effectively and students to engage fully in their studies.

“Education is the cornerstone of development. Through proper planning and collaboration, we can ensure that our schools meet the needs of every child in our community,” he added.

Kanneh, however, credited the project’s feasibility to legislative advocacy and partnerships with government agencies, noting that the funding comes from public resources secured through coordinated efforts.

“This is a product of teamwork between the Legislature and relevant institutions. It demonstrates that when we work together, meaningful change is possible,” he noted.

The Montserrado District #2 lawmaker also called on local leaders and residents to actively protect and maintain the new annex, urging a sense of collective ownership for the success of the project.

For his part, Johnsonville Township Commissioner John Randall described the groundbreaking as a concrete step toward improving education outcomes, signaling a shift from policy discussions to measurable action.

The Johnsonville Township School Principal Victor L. King welcomed the initiative, noting that overcrowded classrooms have long hindered effective teaching and learning.

He said the new annex would create a safer and more conducive environment for students and educators alike.

Montserrado County School System Board Chair Amos Karneh also praised the effort, pledging ongoing collaboration with district leadership to ensure the project aligns with national education standards and policies.

Community members and students attending the ceremony expressed optimism, emphasizing that the additional classrooms would not only improve academic performance but also enhance overall school safety.

“We are excited to see our children study in better conditions,” said one local parent.

He further stated: “This project shows that our leaders are listening and acting on our needs.”

Construction of the annex is expected to begin immediately, with completion projected within the next 18 to 24 months, marking a significant milestone in the township’s educational development.
