Moniba Criticizes Boakai Administration, Says Liberians See No Change

Monrovia — Former presidential candidate and political leader of the Liberia National Union (LINU), Dr. Clarence Moniba, has sharply criticized the current administration of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, stating that Liberians have yet to see any meaningful difference between the Unity Party (UP)-led government and the previous Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) administration.

Speaking on a local radio in Monrovia, Dr. Moniba expressed deep concern over the continuing hardship faced by ordinary citizens. “I don’t see any difference from this administration to that of CDC. The Liberian people are still suffering,” he said. His comments reflect growing public debate about whether the new government has delivered on the promises that propelled it to power.

Dr. Moniba further challenged claims of credit-taking by the current administration, arguing that many development projects being highlighted were initiated years before President Boakai took office. “Most of the projects implemented by this government started about five or six years ago, so no need to be fighting over credit,” he added, suggesting that both the CDC and UP administrations share responsibility for ongoing initiatives.

President Boakai assumed office in January 2024 after defeating former president George Manneh Weah in the 2023 general and presidential elections. During the campaign period, Boakai, then an opposition leader, was a vocal critic of the Weah administration, accusing it of poor governance, corruption, and failure to improve the living conditions of Liberians.
Now in power, President Boakai faces similar criticism from opposition figures and independent political leaders who argue that the pace of reform and economic relief has been slow.

As Liberia continues to grapple with economic challenges, unemployment, and rising costs of living, statements like those from Dr. Moniba are likely to intensify public scrutiny of the government’s performance in the months ahead.
