The MC² Rural Community Finance Institution (MC² Bank) has officially reopened its Greenville branch in Sinoe County, restoring critical financial services and bringing much-needed relief to government employees, marketers, and business operators who have struggled during the bank’s closure.
The reopening ceremony attracted officials from the Office of the County Superintendent, regional and community leaders, and shareholders of the bank, all of whom witnessed the resumption of full banking operations in the county.
For months, the absence of a functional banking institution in Greenville posed serious financial difficulties, particularly for civil servants who were forced to travel long distances to access their salaries, as well as marketers and business people who lacked safe and reliable avenues to save money or access credit. With MC² Bank now fully operational, these challenges are expected to ease significantly.
Government employees can now conveniently receive and manage their salaries locally, reducing transportation costs and security risks associated with carrying cash over long distances. Market women, petty traders, and small business owners will also benefit from improved access to savings accounts, loans, and other microfinance services necessary to sustain and grow their businesses.
Speaking at the reopening program, Mr. Michael Daviand Pestia, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO/MD) of MC² Bank, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment in rural Liberia, with particular focus on Sinoe County.
Mr. Pestia emphasized that MC² Bank remains dedicated to supporting small and medium-scale enterprises, savings groups, and individual customers through affordable financial products designed to improve livelihoods and strengthen the local economy.
“This reopening is not just about banking services; it is about restoring confidence, supporting livelihoods, and contributing to development at the community level,” Mr. Pestia noted.
Participants at the ceremony described the reopening as timely and impactful, stressing that the presence of county authorities, traditional leaders, and shareholders signals strong institutional and community support for the bank’s sustainability.
The return of MC² Bank to Greenville is expected to stimulate local economic activities, encourage a culture of savings, reduce financial stress on government workers and traders, and contribute meaningfully to Sinoe County’s overall development.
