Monrovia — The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) has dismissed as false a video circulating on social media that alleges a power outage at Roberts International Airport (RIA), describing the claim as misinformation.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the LAA said there was no power disruption at RIA at any time, contrary to assertions made by a traveler in the widely shared video. The authority characterized the claim as “entirely untrue” and one of the most serious examples of misinformation currently circulating online.
According to the LAA, the spread of such false narratives detracts from ongoing efforts to improve operations at the country’s main international gateway. The authority pointed to measurable progress at RIA, including upgrades in aviation safety, infrastructure development, transparency, responsible management practices, and enhanced customer service for passengers and airport users.
The LAA urged members of the public and media practitioners to verify information before sharing it and to rely on official sources for accurate updates regarding airport operations.
Reaffirming its commitment to international standards, the authority said it remains focused on operating RIA in a manner that serves the best interests of Liberia and the traveling public.
“Misinformation will not derail our progress,” the statement concluded.
