Senate Pro Tempore Calls for Proper Use of County, Social Development Funds

By Hogkins Tokpah

The Senate Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Senator Nyounblee Karngar Lawrence, has emphasized the need for strict adherence to the intended use of County and Social Development Funds, warning that any diversion of the funds is prohibited.

Speaking on the importance of accountability, Senator Lawrence said the funds are specifically allocated to support development initiatives within counties and their respective districts. She stressed that these resources must directly benefit local communities and not be used for unrelated purposes.

According to the Senate Pro Tempore, the responsibility for local development rests with the central government, which must ensure that funds are properly managed and transparently utilized. She assured residents that allocations made under the County and Social Development Funds will be fully accounted for on an annual basis.

Senator Lawrence further noted that transparency and accountability are critical to ensuring that public funds contribute meaningfully to development efforts and improve the living conditions of citizens.

She also called on residents of Grand Bassa County and other parts of the country to remain vigilant and actively monitor the allocation and use of these funds. According to her, public oversight will help guarantee that the resources are used to support development projects that positively impact communities at the district level.

The Senate Pro Tempore’s remarks serve as a reminder of the government’s commitment to responsible governance and the prudent use of public funds for national and local development.
