LACC Opens Investigation into Corruption Allegations Against Commerce Minister Dagoseh

According to leaked documents obtained by Verity News, the LACC has confirmed and acknowledged an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption, including unexplained wealth, involving the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh.

In a communication dated January 21, 2026, the LACC acknowledged receipt of a formal petition submitted on January 14, 2026, by the Bassa Democratic Movement for Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance (B_DEMO-TAG), through its advocate, Mr. Victor G. Flomo Sr.

According to the letter signed by LACC Executive Secretary Saybah F. Massah, the petition has been reviewed by the Office of the Executive Chairperson, Cllr. Alexandra K. Zoe, and subsequently forwarded to the Commission’s Monitoring and Investigation Department (MID) for a comprehensive investigation to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the allegations.

“The Commission further requests your cooperation and assistance, particularly in identifying the referenced projects, should the need arise during the course of the investigation,” the LACC stated, while commending the petitioners for their contribution to the fight against corruption.

Allegations Outlined in Petition

In the petition addressed to the LACC, B_DEMO-TAG cited provisions of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission Act of 2022 and the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which require asset declaration and prohibit illicit enrichment by public officials.

The group alleged that within approximately eleven to twelve months of assuming office, Minister Dagoseh acquired multiple high-value properties allegedly disproportionate to her lawful income as a public official.

Among the claims outlined in the petition are:

The alleged construction of several residential duplexes in Neekreen Statutory District, Grand Bassa County, with an estimated combined value of about US$200,000

The alleged purchase of a residential property in the Coconut Plantation area of Buchanan City, valued between US$75,000 and US$125,000, reportedly being used as a foundation office.

The alleged acquisition of another property reportedly valued at US$350,000, with claims that documentation for the property may have been issued in the name of a domestic employee to conceal beneficial ownership.

The petitioners further argued that the alleged property acquisitions, reportedly exceeding US$500,000 in value, appear inconsistent with the Minister’s publicly known salary, estimated at approximately US$60,000 annually.

The petition also referenced a November 3, 2025 publication by FrontPage Africa, which alleged corruption and misappropriation of approximately US$429,000 related to an industrial park renovation project.

The petitioners emphasized that while media reports do not constitute proof, they warrant further independent investigation.

B_DEMO-TAG urged the LACC to investigate Minister Dagoseh’s asset declarations, income sources, and possible use of proxies in property transactions, and to take all actions permitted under the law if the allegations are substantiated.

The organization assured the Commission of its full cooperation, including the provision of information and witnesses if required.

As of publication, Minister Dagoseh has not publicly responded to the allegations. Under Liberian law, allegations remain unproven until investigated and determined by the appropriate authorities.

The LACC has reiterated its commitment to conducting an impartial and thorough investigation in line with its mandate to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance in Liberia.
