Monrovia, Liberia – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, has established a Conference Committee to work alongside the Liberian Senate in reconciling the consolidated report of the Joint Public Accounts and Audit Committee on the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL).
The decision was announced during the 7th Day Sitting of the 1st Quarter of the 3rd Session of the 55th Legislature, held Thursday at the Capitol Building in Monrovia, following a formal communication from the Senate.
The Senate’s communication explained that after reviewing the consolidated report previously transmitted for concurrence, it was necessary to form a Conference Committee to align findings, particularly those arising from the General Auditing Commission (GAC) audit of the Central Bank. The goal is to produce a unified legislative position acceptable to both chambers before submission to the President of Liberia.
The Senate appointed Senator Amara M. Konneh as Chair of its Conference Committee, with members drawn from the Senate’s Public Accounts Committee. Responding to the communication, Speaker Koon announced the House’s committee, chaired by Representative Clarence Gahr, with all members of the House Public Accounts Committee serving on the panel.
The Conference Committee is tasked with joint deliberations to resolve outstanding issues in the consolidated audit report and ensure legislative consensus on matters concerning the CBL.
