Sweden has reiterated its long-standing commitment to supporting Liberia’s peacebuilding, democratic development, and transitional justice processes, emphasizing that delayed justice does not mean justice denied.
The Nordic nation has been a steadfast partner in Liberia’s post-war recovery, helping to rebuild institutions, strengthen democracy, and promote lasting peace.
Recently, the Swedish Ambassador participated in a public awareness session on transitional justice in Careysburg and addressed the Civil Society Organization (CSO) Conference on Transitional Justice.
Both events highlighted the critical role of accountability for serious human rights violations and crimes against humanity committed during Liberia’s civil war as essential to achieving genuine national reconciliation.
Sweden, having been reelected as Chair of the UN Peacebuilding Commission Liberia Configuration, is leading efforts to prioritize international support for Liberia’s transitional justice initiatives.
The Embassy stressed that support for the process will continue through the Peacebuilding Commission and other channels, even after the Swedish Embassy in Liberia closes later this year.
Through its sustained engagement, Sweden seeks to ensure that Liberia’s journey toward accountability, justice, and reconciliation remains on track, reinforcing the shared values of human rights, democracy, and peace that underpin the two nations’ partnership.
