In a significant advancement for football development in Liberia, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) and the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to allocate $250,000 for the development of football in Liberia and the operational activities of the national team, known as the Lone Star from its corporate social responsibility.
The MOU, effective for one year and renewable thereafter, was signed on Tuesday, February 10, at the LiMA headquarters in Congo Town.
During the signing ceremony, LiMA Commissioner/CEO Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr. emphasized that this partnership represents more than just financial support; it is a strategic investment in Liberia’s football development.
“This investment of $250,000 into our national football is a direct commitment to unlocking the potential of our young people. Through our partnership with the LFA, we are not only fostering football development but also creating a vital platform for empowerment, discipline, and national pride. Our aim is to ensure that the success of Liberia’s maritime program translates into real opportunities for every young Liberian, both on and off the pitch,” Cllr. Lighe stated.
LFA President Mustapha Raji expressed gratitude to LiMA for the historic partnership and highlighted that the funds will be directed towards enhancing football development programs at the LFA, benefiting both young boys and girls.
He referenced a recent achievement in the transfer market, noting that Liberian clubs benefited from $480,000 generated by 22 outgoing transfers in 2025.
“This is a groundbreaking contribution from a government organization,” Mr. Raji remarked. “We assure the public and our partners that this $250,000 will be utilized transparently and accountably, ensuring that our footballing talent continues to reach its highest potential.”
