MOH Begins Nationwide Distribution of Essential Medicines for First Quarter of 2026

Monrovia, Liberia —The Ministry of Health has commenced its first-quarter (Q1) 2026 nationwide distribution of essential medicines and medical supplies, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the country’s health supply chain and ensuring uninterrupted access to critical drugs across public health facilities.

The distribution exercise, which began on February 9 through the Ministry’s Pharmacist Division, is part of routine quarterly operations aimed at maintaining consistent availability of medicines and other vital consumables in government-run health institutions.

According to the Ministry, Regions 1 and 2 —covering counties in Liberia’s south-eastern corridor— have successfully received their full allocation of Q1 supplies. The consignments include essential medicines, laboratory consumables, and other critical materials required to sustain primary and secondary healthcare services throughout the quarter.

Health officials said the timely delivery to the south-east underscores improvements in coordination among central medical stores, regional depots, and county health teams. In recent years, the Ministry has prioritized reforms in inventory management, documentation processes, and last-mile delivery systems to curb stock-outs and enhance accountability.

Meanwhile, distribution to Region 3, which comprises Bong, Lofa, and Nimba counties, commenced on February 17. Transportation of commodities to county depots and onward distribution to health facilities is currently ongoing.
The Ministry disclosed that it is working closely with county health authorities and logistics partners to ensure that supplies are delivered safely, properly documented, and received in line with established accountability protocols.

Monitoring teams have also been deployed to oversee the process, verify quantities, and maintain transparency at each distribution point.

Reaffirming its commitment to equitable access to life-saving medicines nationwide, the Ministry pledged to continue strengthening national supply chain systems in support of Liberia’s universal health coverage goals.

The Q1 distribution exercise is expected to conclude once all remaining regions receive their allocated consignments, ensuring that health facilities across the country remain adequately stocked to serve communities in the months ahead.
