Ministry of Labour Probes Z&C Mining After Activist Martin Kollie’s Advocacy and Viral Video Expose Worker Abuses

Following a viral video and advocacy for Liberian Workers by activist Martin K. N. Kollie which exposed the poor working conditions at Z&C Mining Company, the Ministry of Labour has launched an immediate investigation. Labour Minister Kruah constituted a team led by Hon. Emmanuel Zorh, Assistant Minister for Labour Standards, and Hon. Augustine N. Blackie, Acting Director for Regional Labour Affairs.

In response, Z&C Mining has begun providing Personal Protective Equipment and improving on-site safety measures. However, the Ministry is also probing administrative violations, including the absence of formal contracts and failure to regularize workers who have exceeded probationary periods, contrary to Liberian labour law.

A formal hearing has been scheduled for today at 10:00 a.m., where company management and worker representatives will appear before Assistant Minister Zorh. The outcome is expected to determine corrective actions and possible penalties, setting a benchmark for labour compliance within the mining sector.

Speaking to Verity News, Assistant Minister Donokolo confirmed that issues of contracts, low wages, and safety of workers are being addressed.
