Ex-AFL Officer Volunteers to Defend Liberia

Former Armed Forces of Liberia officer Varney Adolphus Sirleaf popularly known on social media as Captain Sirleaf has expressed willingness to return home to help defend Liberia if the country faces external threats.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Sirleaf said he is ready to volunteer his service despite no longer being an active member of the military.

“I volunteer to return to defend Liberia,” he wrote, describing it as an honorable duty to stand with the nation’s armed forces if tensions in the region escalate.

Sirleaf expressed confidence in the capabilities of the AFL, noting that military success depends on training, tactics, and discipline rather than troop numbers alone. He also acknowledged existing challenges within Liberia’s military, particularly in equipment and logistical support.

The former officer urged military leaders to trust the training of their personnel and consider suggestions from experienced servicemen. He also suggested that in the event of a national emergency, Liberian youths could undergo rapid training to support national defense.

“I just want to defend my country. There is no place like home,” Sirleaf said.
