Citizens Decry Rising Transport Costs, Call for Government Action

Monrovia, Liberia – Concerns over soaring transport fares have been raised by Communication Specialist Clara Mallah, who has condemned recent hikes that she says are placing a heavy burden on ordinary citizens.

“How can a taxi driver charge a passenger from the Unity Party headquarters to JFK Medical Hospital LD$200? This is what we are being subjected to!” Ms. Mallah exclaimed, in a pointed critique of both transport operators and government agencies.

She criticized the Ministry of Transport and the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company for remaining silent on the issue. “We get it, the tanks of your vehicles are filled up, and air-conditioned, but the citizens are suffering! We’re watching you! Your lies will no longer be sustained come 2029!” she warned.

Transport costs have been rising steadily in recent months, causing public concern over affordability and the government’s role in regulating fares. Ms. Mallah’s statement reflects growing frustration among commuters struggling to meet everyday expenses.

Government officials have yet to respond publicly to these claims.
