Pope Condemns War, Says God Rejects Leaders’ Prayers

By Emmanuel M Kangar, Jr.

Pope Leo on Sunday said God rejects the prayers of leaders who wage wars, declaring their “hands are full of blood,” as the Iran conflict entered its second month.

Speaking to tens of thousands gathered at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City during Palm Sunday celebrations, the pontiff described the war as “atrocious” and insisted that Jesus cannot be used to justify violence.

“This is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war,” he said, warning that prayers from those who promote conflict will not be heard.

Although he did not name specific leaders, the pope has intensified criticism of the ongoing war. He also expressed concern for Christians in the Middle East, saying many may be unable to celebrate Easter due to the violence.
