FLY President Dismisses Ministry Statement as ‘April Fool’s Prank’

By Emmanuel M. Kangar, Jr.

Monrovia — The embattled President of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), Duku Jallah, has dismissed a recent statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports questioning his leadership, describing it as an “April Fool’s prank.”

In a response issued Tuesday, Jallah said he had received numerous inquiries but, after consultations, concluded the Ministry’s position was not credible. He reaffirmed that FLY is an independent civil society organization established by legislative act, emphasizing that it operates as a partner—not a subordinate—of the Ministry.

Jallah further noted that the Ministry had previously recognized the December 16, 2025 FLY elections as “credible and transparent,” adding that there is no legal basis to delegitimize his leadership. He also downplayed concerns about ongoing court cases involving youth organizations, stating such disputes are a routine part of electoral processes.

Addressing speculation of tensions, Jallah disclosed he had recently held a “productive” meeting with the current Minister, urging the public to disregard misinformation circulating on social media.

He concluded by stressing the importance of cooperation between FLY and the Ministry, warning that unnecessary conflict could undermine efforts to advance the interests of Liberia’s youth.
