The National Safety Partnership of Liberia (NASAPAL Inc.) has called for immediate, collective action to address the country’s growing road safety crisis, following the release of the Liberia National Police’s Quarterly Accident Statistics Report covering January to March 2026.
According to the report, road accidents continue to rank among the leading causes of death and injury in Liberia, raising serious concerns about public safety nationwide.
NASAPAL, a self-funded nonprofit established in 2008, operates across all 15 counties and is working toward expanding its reach into each of Liberia’s 73 districts. The organization stressed that improving road safety requires a united effort from all sectors of society, including families, community leaders, transport operators, and government institutions.
“Accurate and timely accident data is essential for any effective public safety strategy,” NASAPAL stated. “It supports informed decision-making, strengthens coordination, and ultimately helps save lives.”
The organization outlined several key initiatives aimed at reducing road-related incidents. These include promoting responsible behavior among drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians; supporting road safety training programs; increasing public awareness through education campaigns; and expanding grassroots safety efforts in communities across the country.
In addition, NASAPAL is advocating for stronger law enforcement systems and improved welfare for officers to enhance efficiency and accountability.
The group also praised the Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Health for their commitment to transparency and national safety, noting that consistent reporting and open data are critical for collaboration among government agencies, civil society groups, and development partners.
NASAPAL further highlighted its partnerships with retired police officers, local media, and transport unions, which aim to strengthen safety initiatives at the community level. The organization warned that road accidents affect all citizens, emphasizing that anyone could become a victim if urgent steps are not taken.
“By working together, we can save lives and build a safer Liberia,” NASAPAL emphasized, urging citizens to adopt safer road practices and actively participate in community safety efforts.
