Amid rising prices and global economic shock, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has ordered all ministers and other senior government officials to travel in a single bus as a cost-saving measure.
The president said her government wants to cut down costs and rationalize public expenditure, starting with her own presidential convoy. President Suluhu said she is cutting down on travel and personnel travelling with her.
Speaking during a swearing-in ceremony of public officials in Dodoma, President Samia Hassan noted that during her official trips, only her core convoy which includes her escort, police and a backup vehicle would be in the official motorcade.
“From now on, all officials will travel together in one bus to cut fuel consumption. We are starting to reduce fuel consumption, and I am beginning with my office. This is a worldwide challenge affecting many countries, not just Tanzania,” the president stated.
President Hassan has also ordered senior officials of government to cut down nonessential trips as a way of reducing huge public spending.
