Fire guts Representative Yarh’s one-storey building in Kakata

By Emmanuel M Kangar Jr.

A one-storey building owned by Representative Emmanuel O. Yarh of District #4 in Margibi County is on fire. The property, which also hosts the official office of the lawmaker, is located in Vai Town, Kakata, Margibi Co.

The cause of the fire outbreak has not been established. But eyewitnesses said that LEC was not on when the fire started. The lawmaker just arrived on the scene as he shook his head in shock in disbelief.

The county lacks adequate fire service equipment to respond to increasing fire outbreaks in a timely manner, according to local county authorities.

The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has US$2.9 million in the 2026 Approved National Budget to respond to fire outbreaks across 15 counties. US$2,021,400 of the US$2.9 million is spent on salaries alone. This is 67.4% on salaries of employees.
