‘Used, Abandoned’-Former Senator Blasts Unity Party Over Jobs, Loyalty

By G. Watson Richards

Former Bomi County Senator and former Presidential Legislative Liaison Sando Johnson has sharply criticized the ruling Unity Party government, accusing party officials of abandoning loyal supporters after winning the 2023 elections.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Focal FM, Johnson said many people who sacrificed their time, resources, and energy to help the party secure victory are now being ignored.

“The Unity Party people do not appreciate good. They believe that this government is only for them. So, nobody should survive,” Johnson declared.

The former senator said he supported the party with the expectation that those who stood firmly behind the campaign would also benefit from opportunities under the new administratio

“I supported you on the basis that you will support me. Politics is interesting. Politics is a permanent interest,” he said.

Johnson claimed that despite his support for the ruling establishment, he and several of his associates have struggled to secure employment opportunities both in government and the private sector.

In one of his strongest remarks during the interview, Johnson rejected what he described as pressure to compromise his dignity in order to get a job.

“I am not going to take out my clothes, or sleep with any woman or man simply because I want a job. I am not going to get into any funny attitude. I am not going to do that,” he stated.

He further alleged that several campaigners who worked closely with him during the election period have also been left out of government appointments and employment opportunities.

“There were people who worked with me during the campaign. You even refused to employ them,” Johnson added.

Johnson’s comments add to growing concerns from some partisans and political supporters who believe the current administration has not adequately accommodated loyalists who contributed to the party’s electoral success.

The Unity Party government has not yet responded publicly to the former senator’s claims.
