The Representative of Montserrado County District #8, Hon. Prince Aquency Toles, has joined scores of citizens to publicly complain about the poor performance of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC).
Access to stable electricity remains a serious challenge amid continued power outages and public outrage. Toles has placed LEC Managing Director Mohammed M. Sherif on public notice.
“The LEC Boss must either fix the ongoing power outage throughout the country, as he promised during his confirmation hearing before the Senate and the Liberian people, or face a vote of no confidence from the House of Representatives. This is too much and we will not stop until we see the end,” Representative Prince Toles wrote on his official Facebook page.
Sherif, appointed on April 1, 2025 by Joseph Boakai, took office amid high public expectations. At his induction on April 7, 2025, he made an ambitious commitment that quickly captured national attention:
“Our goal and commitment to Liberians is zero outage. Power outage must be something of the past… Electricity is a right. Liberian people deserve electricity,” Sherif declared, promising to transform the country’s struggling power sector. He was later confirmed by the Liberian Senate on July 22, 2025.
Now, one year, one month, and five days into his tenure, many Liberians are asking a critical question: Has anything changed in terms of access to stable electricity as promised by Sherif?
