Hours after a 15-member jury acquitted former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah and several co-defendants of all criminal charges in the widely publicized US$6.2 million corruption case, the former official and his supporters took to social media wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “D-Tweah NOT Guilty.”
The display came shortly after the court delivered its verdict, bringing an end to a case that had drawn significant public and political attention across Liberia.
Prosecutors had accused Tweah and others of financial misconduct involving millions of dollars in government funds, allegations the defense consistently denied throughout the proceedings.
Images circulating on social media showed Tweah alongside supporters dressed in customized shirts celebrating the acquittal. The slogan quickly gained traction online, with supporters describing the verdict as a vindication of the former minister.
The jury’s decision marked a major legal victory for Tweah, who served as Finance Minister under the administration of former President George Weah. Legal analysts say the outcome could have broader political implications as public debate continues over accountability and corruption allegations involving former government officials.
The case had remained one of the country’s most closely watched corruption trials, attracting widespread interest from both political observers and the general public.
