The World Health Organization (WHO) has honored Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, Minister of Health of the Republic of Liberia, with a prestigious Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to tobacco control.
The recognition was presented as part of activities marking World No Tobacco Day 2026, highlighting Liberia’s growing efforts to combat tobacco use and promote healthier communities across the country.
According to the Ministry of Health, the award reflects Dr. Kpoto’s dedication to strengthening public health policies, advancing tobacco control initiatives, and championing a healthier future for all Liberians.
The Certificate of Appreciation was received on behalf of the Health Minister by Julie Fatormah Wiah, Chairperson on Health at the House of Representatives.
Her participation underscored the government’s collective commitment to safeguarding public health and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing tobacco-related harm.
Health authorities described the recognition as a proud moment for Liberia and a testament to the country’s continued progress in public health leadership and advocacy.
World No Tobacco Day, observed annually on May 31, is a global campaign led by the World Health Organization to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and encourage stronger actions to protect public health worldwide.
