What’s in the law?
1) Maintains the existing penalty of up to three years in prison for same-sex sexual acts.
2) Broadcasting, advocating, or producing materials deemed to support such acts carries 6 to 10 years in prison.
3) Bans funding, sponsorship or promotion of LGBTQ acts, with prison terms ranging from three to five years.
4) Makes a “public show of romantic relations” or cross-dressing punishable by 6 to 12 months in prison.
5) Introduces a “duty to report” prohibited LGBTQ acts to a police officer or other authorities, with violators facing up to three years behind bars.
6) Forbids the formation, registration, or maintenance of any LGBT+ organizations or related advocacy groups, holding property owners equally liable if such groups organize on their premises.
7) Bans adoption and fostering for LGBTQ+ individuals and prohibits healthcare providers from offering transgender medical treatments
8)Amends Ghana’s Extradition Act of 1960 to make offences under the new law extraditable offences.
