Love Triangle Turns Deadly in Bong as Police Charge a Man with Alleged Murder for Shooting His Friend to Death for Loving to His Girlfriend

GBARNGA, Bong County — Police in Bong County have charged and forwarded to court 44-year-old Kerkulah Flomo, widely known as “Big Boy,” in connection with the alleged murder of 48-year-old Harris Kpaikpai in Sonoyea District.

According to the Commander of the Crime Services Division of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Bong County Detachment, James Kartoe, the fatal incident occurred on June 10, 2026, following a dispute between the two men.

Commander Kartoe disclosed that Flomo and Kpaikpai were involved in a physical altercation at approximately 7:00 p.m., during which Flomo reportedly accused Kpaikpai of having a relationship with his girlfriend.

Police say Kpaikpai was later shot and killed around midnight on the same day.

During police interrogation, Flomo admitted to discharging a single-barrel shotgun but claimed he did not know the identity of the person he shot.

According to investigators, Flomo stated that he was walking through a banana farm when an unidentified person flashed a light in his face.

He said he asked the individual to identify themselves but received no response.

Flomo told investigators that he then fired the weapon.

Flomo provided his statement in the Kpelle language because he has difficulty communicating in English.

Speaking at the headquarters of the LNP Bong County Detachment, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) William Johnson and the county’s Operations Commander reaffirmed the police’s commitment to ensuring the swift investigation and prosecution of serious crimes.

The police leadership called on members of the victim’s family, especially relatives of Harris Kpaikpai, to remain calm and allow the judicial process to take its course.

The murder case is the second major criminal matter forwarded to court by the Bong County Police on Monday, June 15.

Earlier the same day, ACP Johnson and his team also forwarded 24-year-old Moses Kollie to court over allegations of armed robbery in Gbarnga.

Police say preliminary investigations into both cases have been concluded, with the matters now before the court for further legal proceedings.
