Who wants to kill Liberia Football Association (LFA) deputy secretary-general Mohammed Sheriff?
Sheriff is currently hospitalized after he collapsed when he was made to sign unto an investigation handed to him by legal manager Benedict Yarsiah on President Mustapha Ishola Raji’s request.
Merlin reported refused to admit Sheriff with a twisted mouth due to pressure.
It all started when Sheriff, deputizing for secretary-general Emmett Crayton, revealed during an executive committee meeting that the LFA was spending outside of the approved budget for 2026.
Annoyed by the comment, Raji initiated an investigation into the purchase of a bus for the national team involving Sheriff and LFA ticketing and procurement officer Togba Rockson.
Sheriff and Rockson flew to China to procure a brand new 52-seater bus, fully air-conditioned and with bathroom facilities, for the national team at a cost of US$150,000.
At the elective congress in May, Raji announced the procurement of the 52-seater bus.
Executive committee member Tickly D. Monkoney, Jr., Sheriff and Rockson were named to a bus committee but Monkoney was removed.
Monkoney had already begun negotiation and was deep into finalizing the deal when he was removed.
The vendors raised concerns about Monkoney’s withdrawal when
Sheriff and Rockson began new rounds of negotiations.
Sheriff is alleged to have received kickbacks by procuring a used 42-45 seater bus for US$108,000 instead of the 52-seater announced by Raji at the congress without Rockson’s involvement.
Raji has since been annoyed by the whole story wrapped in controversies, fraud, waste and abuse and been looking for ways and means to cover-up.
So Sheriff’s revelation during the executive committee meeting only ignited the flames in Raji.
And it is the thought of being investigated and dismissed for corruption that Sheriff couldn’t imagine thus increasing his high blood pressure.
