River Gee County | July 19, 2026 | A devastating bus fire accident occurred late Saturday evening July 18, 2026 in River Gee County, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving five others injured.
The victims, Joko Tweh, who is believe to in his 50’s was a well-known figure from Tienpo Statutory district of River Gee County and his wife, Dorris Siah Breh, were tragically lost in the blaze.
Dorris, believed to be of Bassa descent, was a respected well-known businesswoman residing in Fish Town, River Gee’s capital, where she and Joko fell in love.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the couple had recently traveled to Monrovia to complete a dowry payment and were returning home to prepare for their official wedding planned for February 2027 when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Two female survivors, Felicia Kartuwaye and Felicia Seebo, both businesswomen from Pleebo, Maryland County, who are undergoing medical attention at the Gbeapo Kanweaken Comprehensive Health Center recounted the harrowing events to our reporter. Kartuwaye stated the fire erupted shortly after they departed Kanweaken parking at around 9:00 PM.
“We left Monrovia on Thursday and arrived in Kanweaken around 5:00 PM. Delays in unloading cargo and letting passengers off extended our stay until 9:00 PM. There were seven of us in total on the bus: two headed to Pleebo, while the man and his wife were going to Fish Town, along with the driver, conductor, and carboy,” Kartuwaye explained tearfully.
“Just as we pulled out of the parking area, we noticed flames coming from the front of the vehicle. In the chaos, the driver, conductor, and carman abandoned us. My friend Felicia Seebo and I managed to escape thanks to the brave souls who rushed to our aid,” Kartuwaye added.
“I thank God for saving my life,” expressed Kartuwaye, who is a mother of three, alongside Seebo.
“Last night around 9:00 PM, my brother and I were riding our motorbike toward central Kanweaken when we spotted the bus engulfed in flames. We immediately stopped to help the passengers inside. While two women managed to escape through the window, we also tried to rescue an elderly man and a person we referred to as “papay.” Unfortunately, with the fire spreading rapidly, our attempts were in vain, and we had to leave the scene as it became too dangerous, said eyewitness Johnson Doe.
Meanwhile, River Gee Coroner Jerry Kear confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families, but he suspects that the fire may have been caused by a mechanical failure.
Unfortunately, both victims were so severely burned that they could only be identified by their loved ones.
As of press time, the Driver is currently unconscious and has not provided any details regarding the incident, while the conductor and carman are reportedly recovering from the ordeal.
In the wake of the tragic incident, many local residents are urging the national government to establish a fire service station in the county to help prevent such disasters in the future.
