MONROVIA, Liberia – July 21, 2026 – The Government of Liberia has announced what is believed to be the largest drug seizure in the nation’s history, signaling a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on transnational drug trafficking networks.
Speaking during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing on Tuesday, Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah said the latest operation underscores the government’s unwavering determination to prevent Liberia from becoming a transit hub for illegal narcotics.
Minister Piah noted that while public attention has been focused on the recently reported US$90 million drug case, security agencies have continued carrying out intelligence led operations across the country without slowing down.According to the Minister, Liberian security forces recently uncovered another massive cache of suspected illegal drugs in Duazon.
Although authorities have not yet confirmed the exact quantity or street value, preliminary assessments indicate that the seizure could surpass every previous drug bust recorded in Liberia.He said investigators strongly suspect the substance is cocaine, but laboratory analysis will be conducted to officially determine its composition.
Minister Piah further disclosed that the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), in collaboration with the National Security apparatus and other law enforcement agencies, has intensified round-the-clock operations to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates and prevent Liberia from being exploited as a corridor for illicit drugs.
He stressed that everyone linked to the case will face a thorough investigation, and those against whom sufficient evidence is established will be prosecuted under the full weight of Liberian law.
The government reiterated that there will be no safe haven for drug traffickers, pledging to strengthen enforcement efforts and relentlessly pursue those responsible for fueling the country’s growing drug menace.
