MONROVIA – Renowned Liberian singer and social activist Miatta Fahnbulleh has delivered a sharp critique of former President George Weah’s administration, describing it as “a disaster for the country” while blaming former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for supporting his rise to the presidency.
Speaking during a recent interview, Fahnbulleh alleged that Sirleaf played a decisive role in Weah’s political emergence, claiming her “lasting legacy” would be that she “unleashed George Weah on us.”
Fahnbulleh argued that although Weah was an exceptional footballer, he lacked the experience and interest required to govern the country effectively. She said his background in sports did not prepare him for the demands of national leadership, adding that he showed little enthusiasm for governance and policy.
The veteran activist further maintained that Liberia suffered under Weah’s administration and questioned the wisdom of elevating prominent athletes to the presidency without prior political experience.
Her remarks are her personal opinions and add to the ongoing public debate over the legacy of the former CDC-led government. Neither former Presidents George Weah nor Ellen Johnson Sirleaf had publicly responded to the comments at the time of publication
