Lawyer Elijah Sahr Describes Former CDC Government as ‘Wasteful and Disastrous’

MONROVIA – Liberian lawyer Cllr. Elijah W. Sahr has strongly criticized the former Congress for Democratic Change (CDC)-led government, describing its 2018–2023 administration as a “wasteful and disastrous experiment” that enriched a few individuals at the expense of the Liberian people.

In a public statement, Sahr said he does not take a neutral position when politicians or public officials are accused of stealing public funds, arguing that accountability should take precedence over claims of political persecution.

He alleged that officials of the former administration amassed wealth while poverty, unemployment and underdevelopment worsened across the country. Sahr also dismissed assertions that corruption prosecutions are politically motivated, urging supporters of accused officials to explain the sources of their wealth instead.

According to the lawyer, he does not defend politicians accused of misappropriating public resources, either in court or in public discourse, because he believes public officials must be held accountable for their actions.

Sahr’s comments come amid ongoing corruption-related prosecutions involving several former officials of the CDC administration. Leaders of the opposition CDC have repeatedly maintained that the cases are politically motivated and insist their officials are being unfairly targeted by the Unity Party-led government.
