Journalist Abraham Wheon Warns Liberia Is ‘Headed Towards War’ Amid Political Tensions

MONROVIA – Talk-show host and lawyer Abraham Godsent Wheon has expressed concern over rising political tensions in Liberia, warning that recent developments could push the country toward instability if not carefully managed.

Speaking on Face the Issues on King’s FM 88.5 on July 21, 2026, Wheon criticized a recent court ruling involving former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah and accused the Unity Party-led government of interfering with the justice system.

He alleged that the government’s actions, in collaboration with state actors, could plunge the country into “war,” “anarchy,” and “total chaos.” Wheon also claimed that the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) was defending the integrity of the justice system rather than any individual.

The broadcaster further lamented what he described as the silence of religious institutions amid the growing political tension, warning that any future conflict would have devastating consequences for all Liberians.

The remarks come amid heightened political debate following recent judicial proceedings involving Tweah. At the time of publication, the Unity Party-led government had not publicly responded to Wheon’s statements.
