The Joint Security has identified three security officers as key suspects in the ongoing investigation into the seizure of cocaine valued at approximately US$317 million.
Addressing the Ministry of Information regular Press briefing on Thursday, Inspector General of Police Gregory Coleman said Highway Patrol Chief Wendell Quabo and Major Crimes Chief Anthony Blaye have been charged in connection with the case.
Coleman said both officers are being held at the Liberia National Police Headquarters and will be forwarded to court to face prosecution.
“The cartels are allegedly using the media to divert attention, spread misinformation, undermine the ongoing investigation, and ultimately ensure that they are set free,” IG Coleman lamented.
He also disclosed that the Deputy Commander assigned to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) at Roberts International Airport has been identified as another key suspect in the investigation.
The Police Inspector General said investigators are continuing to gather evidence as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the drug seizure.
He assured the public that the investigation would be carried out without fear or favor, adding that anyone found to have violated the law will be held accountable.
