Monrovia – University of Liberia (UL) President Dr. Layli Maparyan has warned members of the university’s administration against participating in the ongoing faculty go-slow action, cautioning that violators could face suspension, removal from administrative positions, or dismissal.
In a memorandum dated July 29, 2026, and addressed to academic and administrative leaders, Dr. Maparyan clarified that administrators constitute a distinct class of employees under the University’s Charter and Bylaws and are legally obligated to remain on duty to ensure the institution fulfills its educational mandate.
The memorandum states that administrators, including deans, directors, deputy directors, department heads, the comptroller, and chief accountant, are prohibited from participating in or supporting faculty- or staff-led work stoppages, go-slow actions, or strikes. It also notes that administrators should not vote in elections of the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) or the University of Liberia Staff Association (ULSA).
According to the memo, administrators found aiding or participating in the industrial action will receive warning letters, while more serious violations could result in suspension, revocation of administrative titles, or termination in line with applicable laws.
The warning comes as the University continues to grapple with an ongoing go-slow action by faculty members that has disrupted academic activities.
