Monrovia, Liberia – The Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia National Office, Dale G. Gbotoe, has disclosed that the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was conducted successfully without any examination paper leakage, while assuring the public that results will be released on or before August 14.
Speaking Tuesday at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Gbotoe said 57,391 candidates sat the examination at 401 centers, including 400 centers across Liberia and one in neighboring Guinea. He noted that 263 centers were located in Montserrado County, while 138 were spread across the remaining counties.
Gbotoe said 1,435 educators served as examination workers alongside school authorities supervising the process, with operations supported through 353 examination depots nationwide.
He also announced the introduction of a digital attendance platform that enabled real-time monitoring of candidates and examination personnel. According to him, about 90 percent of examination workers successfully utilized the platform, though incomplete usage by some workers has delayed payments to certain personnel.
Gbotoe identified the late arrival of mathematical sets and the spread of misleading information on social media as the two major challenges encountered during the examination. He explained that, unlike previous years when WAEC supplied mathematical sets, logistical delays forced the Council to ask candidates to use their own scientific calculators while temporarily relaxing rules to allow students to share calculators where necessary.
Despite the challenges, Gbotoe reaffirmed WAEC’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process and expressed confidence that the 2026 WASSCE results will be published on or before August 14.
