The Urban Bridge Initiative, headed by RIA Depot #1 Police Inspector Abrahim Kamara, has launched a rehabilitation and reintegration program aimed at helping disadvantaged youth and children living on the streets in Margibi County.
The initiative seeks to remove vulnerable young people, particularly those struggling with drug use, from the streets and provide them with opportunities to learn trades and become productive members of their communities.
Speaking to Verity News over the weekend, Inspector Kamara said the program has already begun placing some of the beneficiaries in various forms of work, including community cleanup activities.
“We’ve started placing them to work already. They’re doing some community cleaning up,” Kamara said.
He explained that the Urban Bridge Initiative is also engaging local businesses and skilled workers, including carpentry and mechanical workshops, as part of its broader rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.
Kamara said discussions are underway with carpenters, mechanics and operators of other trade centers to provide opportunities for the young people to acquire practical skills and gain meaningful employment.
According to him, the initiative is intended not only to get vulnerable youth off the streets but also to equip them with skills that can help them become self-reliant and contribute positively to society.
Inspector Kamara used the occasion to appeal to Liberians at home and abroad, as well as well-meaning individuals and organizations, to support the Urban Bridge Initiative.
He said additional support would enable the initiative to reach more disadvantaged young people and expand its rehabilitation, skills-training and reintegration activities across Margibi County.
