MONROVIA, Liberia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has directed Liberia’s security forces to intensify the fight against illicit drugs, urging security officials to remain focused despite public criticism and external pressure.
Speaking Thursday, August 13, during the 23rd Cabinet Meeting, President Boakai declared that his administration would not retreat from its campaign against drug trafficking.
“We are not stopping. We will continue to fight for this country,” Boakai said.
The President stressed that the fight against drugs must be accompanied by stronger border security, warning that drug trafficking poses broader national security concerns.
“It is not just the drug trafficking. Our borders, we have to keep secure,” he said.
Boakai urged security institutions to strengthen coordination and conduct their duties with professionalism, integrity and sound judgment. He cautioned officials against allowing criticism or outside pressure to prevent them from carrying out their responsibilities.
He also called for appropriate action against individuals who violate the law, while emphasizing that security decisions must be guided by knowledge, expertise and national interest.
Beyond security, the Cabinet meeting reviewed progress under the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, including healthcare, salary payments, social protection, essential services and infrastructure.
Boakai highlighted road development as a priority, noting improved access toward Côte d’Ivoire while calling for closer attention to the Roberts International Airport road project.
The President commended government workers for their sacrifices and encouraged Cabinet members to be more visible at national events, saying their presence demonstrates institutional support for government programs.
He concluded by urging Liberians to work collectively to advance national development and support efforts aimed at improving citizens’ lives.
