River Gee County | August 14, 2026 — The Ministry of National Defense, through the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), has intensified efforts to encourage more qualified Liberian women to pursue careers in the military through a female recruitment awareness and engagement campaign in River Gee County.
The initiative is aimed at increasing public awareness of the opportunities available to women within the AFL while promoting greater female participation and representation in Liberia’s national security sector.
The awareness and engagement meeting was held on Wednesday, August 12, at Kwa Sports Bar in Fish-Town, River Gee County’s capital, adjacent to the Fish-Town Community Hall.
The gathering brought together representatives of county and local authorities, as well as women from diverse backgrounds who attended to learn more about the AFL, its recruitment requirements, application procedures, career opportunities, and the important role women play in Liberia’s national defense.
Speaking during the campaign, Sergeant Patricia Munah Lincoln stressed the importance of increasing women’s participation in the Armed Forces, noting that greater female representation would contribute to a stronger and more inclusive national security institution.
According to Sergeant Lincoln, the Government of Liberia is seeking to increase female representation in the AFL to between 15 and 20 percent.
She disclosed that women currently make up approximately 7.4 percent of AFL personnel, emphasizing the need for more qualified women to join the military.
Sergeant Lincoln encouraged eligible women across River Gee County and Liberia as a whole to take advantage of the recruitment opportunity, complete the required recruitment process, and consider military service as a professional career through which they can contribute to national security and development.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the responsibilities, discipline, leadership, and career prospects associated with military service.
Several women who attended the session expressed interest in joining the Armed Forces of Liberia, signaling growing enthusiasm among women in River Gee County to explore opportunities within the military.
The AFL states that the campaign is expected to broaden awareness of female recruitment, encourage more qualified women to apply, and contribute to building a more diverse, inclusive, and representative Armed Forces of Liberia.
Qualified Liberian women are encouraged to step forward, serve with honor and discipline, and consider becoming part of the nation’s defense and security establishment.
