MONROVIA, Liberia — Liberia National Police (LNP) Spokesperson Sam Collins has announced a major press briefing this afternoon amid renewed developments surrounding the country’s ongoing drug investigation.
Collins made the announcement to journalists at LNP Headquarters in Monrovia shortly after the former Vice President was arrested and reportedly classified as a person of interest in connection with the cocaine case.
The planned briefing is expected to provide updates on the investigation and address recent developments surrounding Liberia’s intensified fight against illicit drugs.
The announcement comes about 10 hours after exiled Liberian activist Martin K. N. Kollie announced plans to resume his investigation into alleged drug-trafficking activities in Liberia.
In a Facebook post, Kollie said his team had gathered what he described as “new pieces of evidence” and accused the Police Inspector General and the Ministry of Justice of failing to provide full updates on the reported US$317 million and US$19 million drug busts.
“Resuming 8/19: We’ve gathered new pieces of evidence,” Kollie wrote, adding that “a lot will be exposed.”
He further announced that the release of the alleged evidence would begin at 1:00 p.m., while renewing his call for the LNP Inspector General to step aside from the drug investigation.
The police press briefing is therefore expected to attract significant public attention as authorities face growing calls for transparency and clarity surrounding Liberia’s major drug cases.
Citizens and observers are now awaiting the LNP’s official response and any new information that may emerge from this afternoon’s briefing.
