GBUSU Leadership Under Fire as Students Demand Financial Audit

Monrovia, Liberia — A group of students affiliated with the Grand Bassa University Students’ Union (GBUSU) has accused the union’s leadership of alleged financial mismanagement, abuse of office, negligence and other violations of the organization’s constitution.

In a complaint dated August 17, 2026, the students named GBUSU President Prince P. Diggs Jr. and several chapter presidents, calling for an investigation into their alleged conduct.

The complainants accuse the leadership of “institutional decay and massive corruption,” including alleged inflated membership lists, ghost names and mismanagement of funds intended for students.

They also alleged that President Diggs excluded some university chapters from GBUSU activities and made unilateral decisions concerning union programs.

A major concern raised in the complaint is the alleged management of US$29,000 reportedly received by the GBUSU leadership from various sources, including the Grand Bassa County Administration and the Office of Senator Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence.

The students are demanding a comprehensive, independently audited financial report detailing how the funds were received and spent.

They are also calling on Grand Bassa County authorities to freeze further funding to GBUSU until an independent audit and investigation are completed.

The allegations have not been independently established, and the individuals named in the complaint remain entitled to respond and due process.

The complainants are urging disciplinary action against anyone found responsible, saying GBUSU must uphold accountability, transparency and service to students.
