MONROVIA — An Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) soldier reportedly arrested with drugs in Bong County has been identified as Sergeant Peter T. Coleman, also known on Facebook as Peter Sergio Tycrane Coleman, according to information obtained by Verity News.
Verity News reported about four hours ago that an AFL soldier had been arrested in Bong County in connection with the alleged possession of drugs. His identity was not immediately available when the first report was published.
The soldier previously served as a United Nations peacekeeper in Mali under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) and returned to Liberia in 2023 after completing his mission.
Details of the arrest are still unclear, including where exactly it took place and what type and quantity of drugs were allegedly found in his possession.
The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and the Armed Forces of Liberia have not yet released an official statement confirming the arrest or explaining the circumstances surrounding it.
It is also not clear whether he has been formally charged or where he is currently being held.
The reported arrest comes as concerns continue to grow over the spread of illegal drugs in Liberia, with calls for law enforcement to act against anyone found involved, including members of the security forces.
If the allegations are confirmed, he could face criminal prosecution as well as disciplinary action from the military.
For now, the allegations have not been proven in court, and he remains entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence.
The question now is: Will the AFL take disciplinary action and will he face prosecution if the allegations are proven?
