A US-based Liberian advocate, Grace Guar, has sharply criticized President Joseph Boakai over his latest appointments, questioning whether the selections reflect merit, competence, and national interest.
In a statement reacting to the appointments, Guar accused the President of repeatedly favoring friends, political loyalists, family connections, and people she described as having close personal or tribal ties to the administration.
“How will the appointments you made today help the Liberian people?” Guar asked, arguing that Liberia has many qualified professionals capable of serving in key government positions.
She specifically questioned the appointment of Stephen M. Yekeson Jr. to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, alleging that he was previously accused by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) of depositing more than US$300,000 into multiple bank accounts while serving as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Public Works.
Guar also questioned the reassignment of Magdalene Dagoseh following her removal from her previous position, asking where she would be placed next.
She further criticized the return of former Justice Minister Oswald Tweh to the Ministry of Defense, questioning his qualifications and experience for the portfolio.
Guar argued that the latest reshuffle could undermine public confidence in the administration, particularly if individuals with controversial records are repeatedly recycled into senior government positions.
She urged President Boakai to prioritize competence, qualifications, integrity, and national interest over political or personal relationships.
“Liberia is not just for UP partisans, your family, your tribesmen, or your friends; the country belongs to all Liberians,” Guar said, adding that many Liberians are disappointed by the recent reshuffle.
Her comments come amid continued public debate over President Boakai’s approach to appointments and governance.
