Nimba County District Representative Kortor Sehwongbay Kwagrue has forgiven Charles Roberts following what he described as insulting remarks against him, including being called a “monkey.”
Kwagrue expressed appreciation to Liberians, particularly citizens of Nimba County, who supported him on social media following the incident.
The lawmaker described the situation as a test of leadership, saying public officials must be prepared to endure criticism and disagreements.
“I am calling on all Liberians to forgive Mr. Roberts. I have forgiven him completely and bear no malice toward him. My duty is to lead, not to seek revenge,” Kwagrue said.
He also clarified his relationship with the ruling Unity Party, rejecting claims that his political affiliation was based on financial support from individuals within the party.
Kwagrue said his alignment with the Unity Party is based on his respect for President Joseph Boakai’s leadership and Nimba’s tradition of supporting an administration in which a Nimba son serves as Vice President.
He further assured Unity Party supporters that his criticisms are intended to address governance issues constructively rather than attack the party.
The Representative also thanked Nimba County’s two senators for what he described as their leadership throughout the matter.
“To Mr. Charles Roberts: you are forgiven from the bottom of my heart,” Kwagrue said.
