Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, says the country is expected to reach the US$1 billion domestic revenue mark on Monday, September 14, 2026, with a celebration planned to commemorate what he described as a historic financial milestone.
The Finance Minister made the announcement Sunday during a stakeholders’ engagement with citizens and residents of Grand Kru County in Barclayville.
According to the Minister, Liberia is on course to cross the US$1 billion threshold, with the country expected to celebrate the achievement once the milestone is reached.
The announcement comes amid ongoing national discussions over Liberia’s economic performance, domestic revenue mobilization and the government’s ability to translate increased financial resources into tangible development including employment opportunities.
The anticipated milestone could provide the government with additional fiscal space to support critical sectors, including roads, electricity, healthcare, education, agriculture and job creation.
At the same time, a higher national revenue position is likely to increase public expectations for transparency, accountability and visible development across Liberia.
In Grand Kru County, where citizens have consistently called for improved roads, bridges, electricity, healthcare, education and economic opportunities, the announcement carries particular significance.
Residents and citizens will be watching to see whether the country’s anticipated financial growth will translate into concrete development beyond Monrovia and other major urban centers.
The planned celebration could therefore serve as more than a symbolic government event. It could also raise broader questions about how Liberia’s financial resources are collected, managed and distributed for the benefit of all citizens.
With September 14 identified by Finance Minister Ngafuan as the expected date for reaching the US$1 billion mark, attention is now shifting to the government’s official figures, the nature of the milestone and the planned celebration.
