Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan and LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah have finally led Liberia to achieving a historic US$1 billion domestic revenue mark on Monday, September 14, 2026 at about 11:52am in Monrovia. The first time ever in Liberia’s 179-year history.
1) But where did they take it from?
As at December 31, 2023, they inherited a domestic revenue portfolio of just US$611.9 million.
2) What does this domestic revenue boom mean?
This means that in less than 3 years from January 22, 2024 to September 14, 2026, they have added US$388.1 million more to Liberia’s domestic revenue portfolio. The fiscal space has expanded by over 60% in terms of domestic revenue. There’s more money to spend in 2026 as opposed to 2023.
3) Where is Liberia right now?
As of Monday, September 14, 2026, at 11:52am, Liberia achieved a historic US$1 billion domestic revenue target.
4) To what extent Ngafuan and Jallah have grown domestic revenue? Ngafuan and Jallah have grown domestic revenue by 63.42% in exactly 2 years, 7 months, 23 days. US$1 billion is 17.7% of Liberia’s US$5.6 billion nominal GDP. This is a big milestone for Liberia. We give credit to the Government of President Joseph Boakai for achieving this.
5) Where will this big money go; to what extent will it impact national development; and how will it be spent to transform millions of lives including creating sustainable jobs across Lliberia? Does more money mean less problem?
