MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Liberia has received its first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine to be installed at a public health facility since the country’s civil war, according to Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto.
Minister Kpoto announced the development in a social media post, describing the arrival of the machine as a historic milestone for Liberia’s health sector.
“History has arrived. Liberia’s MRI machine is here,” Kpoto wrote, adding that the equipment will be installed at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s health system.
An MRI, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging, is a medical imaging technology that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of structures inside the body, including organs, soft tissues and bones.
The arrival of the machine is expected to expand access to advanced diagnostic services for patients in Liberia.
