Hon. Pawala Janyan has been appointed the second man in command to lead the Protocol Bureau of the Republic of Liberia. Hon. Janyan entered the employ of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an Office Secretary in 2012 and later became Technical Assistant in 2014; rose to the rank of Administrative Officer in 2018, and now Deputy Chief of Protocol in 2026.
Janyan’s core responsibilities as Principal Deputy Chief of Protocol include: managing genral protocol relations for Liberian embassies and foreign missions, coordinating official state ceremonies, international engagements, and high-level visits; and verifying accreditation of foreign diplomats.
The new deputy protocol chief earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Information Technology (IT) from Rwandan-based University of Lay Adventist in Kigali (Cum Laude) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Information Technology from BlueCrest University College in Liberia. Janyan also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from AME University and an advanced diploma in Public Policy.
After his appointment, Janyan shared his thoughts, “Honored and grateful to share that I have been promoted to the post of Principal Deputy Chief of Protocol, Republic of Liberia. This milestone marks an important chapter in a professional journey that began in 2012 when I joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Secretary. Promoted to Technical Assistant in 2014, Administrative Officer in 2018, and today I am privileged to assume this new responsibility.
