Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah has alleged that Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence urged him not to vote for Musa Hassan Bility as Speaker of the House of Representatives because of Bility’s Mandingo heritage.
Speaking on Voice of Liberia 104.1 FM, Kolubah claimed Karnga-Lawrence called him and told him not to support Bility’s speakership bid because “we cannot make a Mandingo man Speaker of the House.”
Kolubah said the alleged conversation strengthened his resolve to support Bility, arguing that Mandingo people are often recognized during elections but subsequently treated as foreigners.
“When Musa was giving his pickups to the Liberty Party, he was not a Mandingo man. But when he wants to be Speaker, then he is a Mandingo man,” Kolubah stated.
The allegation has not been independently verified. Karnga-Lawrence’s response was not included in the account provided.
