In a significant boost to Liberia’s fiscal landscape, the National Port Authority (NPA) has announced a contribution of $2 million to the government after just six months under new management.
Managing Director Sekou Dukuly revealed this milestone during a Ministry of Information press conference, highlighting the achievement as a testament to the NPA’s renewed commitment to national development.
Under Dukuly’s leadership, the NPA generated this substantial sum, marking a stark departure from previous administrations.
Dukuly emphasized that every dollar of this contribution was generated during his tenure, distancing his administration from past financial mismanagement.
“Let me clarify, none of this $2 million USD came from the previous NPA administration. All of it was earned during my time here,” Dukuly asserted firmly.
Comparatively, Dukuly noted that the NPA had contributed only $4 million over the course of the previous six years, a figure he criticized as inadequate and reflective of systemic issues within the institution.
“It’s disheartening to witness such a critical revenue pillar being mismanaged for so long,” Dukuly lamented, hinting at past instances of corruption that had undermined the NPA’s integrity.
Despite these challenges, the NPA Managing Director expressed optimism about his administration’s early accomplishments, framing them as a demonstration of readiness to support broader government initiatives for economic stability and growth.
The timing of the NPA’s contribution is seen as crucial as Liberia navigates ongoing economic negotiations, underscoring the authority’s pivotal role in national economic resilience.
Dukuly stressed the need for corrective measures to address past mistakes and restore the NPA’s credibility, signaling a commitment to transparency and efficiency under his stewardship.
The $2 million injection into government coffers reflects the NPA’s potential to drive economic progress and underscores its newfound momentum in contributing to Liberia’s development agenda.
As the NPA moves forward under new leadership, Dukuly’s proactive stance suggests a determined effort to turn the page on previous shortcomings and pave the way for a more robust and accountable institution.
