“Cover-up”, Who Shot Alphanso Yarkpa?

Monrovia–Liberia: An in-depth investigation conducted by Verity News has uncovered a dossier of audio, pictures, and documents including emails relating to a purported armed robbery fracas involving a former anti-robbery chief superintendent and chief of organized crimes (R4) who’s now severely injured due to gunshot wounds.

“I was never shot in an exchange of gunfire with any armed robber as previous police report claimed. The former Inspector General of Police, Patrick Sudue, provided misleading information. The story told during his press conference is untrue. They asked me to cover it up. I could not speak for fear of my life. Anti-Robbery Sergeant Abraham Z. Davies shot me, and not an armed robber. The armed robbery story is a cover-up. It is a conspiracy.

My case was suppressed. I am not normal. The infection level is too high. My knee is not functioning. It’s getting rotten. I am living on drugs. I need justice. I need advanced medical treatment.” Alphonso Yarkpa, Deputy Chief of Organized Crimes (R4), Liberian National Police

It can be recalled in March 2021 that former Police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue, during a press conference claimed that a senior police officer of the anti-robbery unit, Alphonso Yarkpa, was shot during an exchange of gunfire with some notorious armed robbers.

According to Col. Sudue, the alleged armed robbery incident occurred when the Police Anti-Robbery Unit came under “intense fire” from a notorious armed robber named Ben Roberts alias ‘Bad Man Roberts’ along with four other accomplices who later escaped the robbery scene.

Contrary to what was reported to the media by Police Inspector Patrick Sudue, the investigation of Verity News has uncovered that senior anti-robbery police officer, Alphonso Yarkpa, was never shot by an armed robber during a patrol opposite SWAT (Supplying West Africa Trading Incorporated) Warehouse around Freeport.

Our investigation reveals that Yarkpa was allegedly shot by Sergeant Abraham Z. Davis, an LNP Officer with ID#0141, who’s assigned to the Anti-Robbery Unit of the Crimes Services Department. The shooting incident occurred on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at about 0140hrs according to documents and audio in our possession.
In an interview with Yarkpa, he told Verity News that his voice was silenced under the administration of Col. Patrick Sudue due to threats from high-ranking officials. Yarkpa claimed that there were five anti-robbery police patrolmen including himself serving as Supervisor on that day when he got shot by Sgt. Abraham Davis.
“I was intentionally and criminally assaulted (shot) with Sgt. Abraham Davis’s assigned Norinco 9mm service pistol with serial #: NP22-A080169. Sgt. Davis along with four other anti-robbery unit officers and I were on patrol when the incident occurred. I being the most senior officer was ordered by DIGP Melvin Sackor (Unit-102, Director for Police Operations) to serve as supervisor for the Anti-Robbery Unit that night. We were ordered to deploy, patrol, and respond to calls along the Caldwell, Somalia Drive, New Georgia. During our patrol, we saw four males who were attempting to flee. I approached them with the intent for them to identify themselves. They decided to flee. When I took a few steps toward their direction, Sgt. Davis intentionally fired two rounds directly at me on the back of my left thigh thereby injuring me. I suddenly collapsed and shouted “Oh AB, you shot me. Sgt. Davis came, looked at me, and passed without even stopping to help me,” Police Office Alphonso Yarkpa
With this new development and with a dossier in our possession including documents, emails, and even audio with the voices of ranking police officers on audio, Yarkpa is demanding justice. According to Yarkpa, he feared for his life during and after the incident because he was warned to not come out and speak about the situation. With a new government in power and a new police administration, Yarkpa is calling for accountability, justice, and advanced medical treatment as his leg is currently in a very deplorable state.
Yarkpa claimed that his situation has been neglected, and he thinks it’s time for him to fight for justice. He’s therefore calling on the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia National Police to open his case because he has all the facts to prove his claim against Sgt. Abraham Davis.
“I was never shot in an exchange of gunfire with any armed robber as previous police report claimed. The former Inspector General of Police, Patrick Sudue, provided misleading information. The story told during his press conference is untrue. They asked me to cover it up,” Yarkpa concluded in an interview with Verity News.
