Liberia’s Health Minister elected As Vice President of Regional Health Committee for Africa

The Minister of Health, Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, has been elected as the first Vice President of the 74th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa.

Dr. Kpoto will serve as VP for one year according to a dispatch from Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo.

At the session, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus lauded Member States for their efforts in strengthening emergency preparedness, primary healthcare, and participation in negotiating pandemic agreement.

Various stakeholders of the health sector are currently in Brazzaville, Congo, to formulate policies and programs that will have a trigger down impact on the regional body.

This is part of the Seventy-fourth session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa which is being held in-person in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.

The session began on the 26th and is expected to end on the 30th of August, 2024.

The Regional Committee is the WHO decision-making body in the African Region.

Members of this body convene once a year to discuss and endorse policies, activities, and financial plans aimed at improving the health of the people of Africa.
